A band that might have gone unnoticed

It's time for a little flashback action.  I figure I will do this every Tuesday and give a shout-out to some bands from the past. Most likely bands that weren't getting the love that was deserved at the height of the creative output.  And to kickoff this weeks' flashback Tuesday is Longwave.

Longwave was a New York band that started in the early 2000s and put out 4 albums.  Their last album hit the street in 2008 and that was the last we heard from them.  They didn't get the love they should have and unfortunately alternative music was just coming back to the forefront.  I think Youtube and Facebook have helped bands and those weren't around when this band put out their best album, The Strangest Thing.

I'm going to play three tracks from The Strangest Thing because this album is that freaking good.  It's one most have missed and deserves to be in their collection.  The vocals are good but it's the fuzzed out guitars and driving bass line that just makes this album great.  It reminds me of early U2 and that's a great thing in my mind.

"Everywhere You Turn" kicked off the album for me back in 2004 when I first heard it.  There's so much energy in this song with a damn catchy chorus you remember.  This is definitely my personal favorite song from Longwave.

Nothing like a music video shot on a roller-coaster.  I just love the bass played in their songs.  "Tidal Wave" is another fantastic song.
It's odd how music can so easily trigger memories in your life. This one reminded me of living in Silver Lake, Los Angeles before it became the hippest place in town. "Wake Me When it's Over" is probably the most laid back track on The Strangest Thing.

And I think "No Directions" is the last music video these guys made.  It's from their last album Secrets Are Sinister and is worth a listen before saying goodbye to a band that deserves more love.  I'm hoping they're around still making music somewhere. I just know I haven't seen anything in 4 years.
